12,500gns for B&W milkers
A BID of 12,500gns took the days business by storm when Richard Lancaster sold the milking portion of his Lickber Holstein Friesian herd.
The call at Skipton, N Yorks came for the stylish young cow Murlone Astre Cher VG-88. A much-fancied import, she had stood interbreed champion at this years Otley Show. Highly praised for her type and in particular her udder quality, she is clearly a top show prospect.
She is out of a 10,800kg dam by Astro Jet and gave 11,452kg as a heifer. She heads for the Failand herd of R Jones, Bristol.
Her April-born bull calf by Browndale Stardust made 2000gns to local buyer A Swires.
Richard Butterfield, Lancaster paid 4400gns for Acecroft Hanover 1 Roxe, an April calved heifer by Inspiration and out of the 11,000kg Triple Threat cow Hanoverhill TT Rosette.
And at 3300gns Lickber Mascot Mistress PIN+£101 was claimed by K and K Mawson for their Baileyground herd at Seascale, Cumbria. This April calved heifer is out of Shoremar Blackstar Melody and traces back to Meadow Bridge and Normac lines.
A handful of maiden heifers were included in the sale and sold to 3900gns for Raeburn Stardust Cheery, an imported 18-month heifer out of a dam by A Lime-Hollow Valiant Sir. Buyer was M Nutsford, Chester.
Averages: 59 cows and calved heifers £1420; 16 served heifers £1102 and five maiden heifers £2152. (Norton and Brooksbank)
