A RAM lamb from the Crogham flock of breed society chief executive Jonathan Barber topped last weeks sale of Charollais sheep at Banbury.
The 1500gns call came for a triplet son of Netherallan Envoy whose impressive performance figures had placed it in the top 10% of rams in the breed societys sire reference scheme.
The lamb had an EBV of 1.77mm muscle and 0.32mm fat. He heads for Eire with Rory Brown, Co Kilkenny.
Despite good harvesting weather, buyers turned up in large numbers. Commercial buyers keptthe trade alight and few wereunsold.
Judge Robert Towers, who runs the Camp House flock, near Lancaster, found his champion in a ram lamb from Tim Prichards flock at Llantrisant, Glamorgan.
It was sired by Scratchmere Senator, champion at the 1996 Royal Welsh Show, and was itself in the winning line-up at this years Builth Wells gathering. Buyer at 1000gns was A D and R M Thomas, Lutterworth, Leics.
Sue and John OReillys Blackstone flock from Northamp-ton produced the reserve champion with a ram lamb that had already notched up a several wins at county shows. He made 1080gns and joins the Oversley flock of Christo-pher Corbett, Alcester, Warwicks.
Top priced shearling at 600gns was one from the 10-strong consignment of W W and J A McCurdie, Rugby that averaged £517.
