Accused farmers say witness is the killer

TWO farmers on trial for the murder of an Aberfoyle couple claim that the prosecution witness is the killer.

Lawyers for the two accused men said Mr Neil Meikleham actually murderered Roddy and Anne Aitken. But it is Mr Meiklehams older brother Iain and his friend John Parker who are in the dock.

Mr Neil Meikleham claimed he heard four shotgun blasts at the family farm at Little Blairlusk, Gartocharn. He said he found his brother brushing what he believed were bloodstains from the ground and saw Mr Parker helping him with buckets of water.

Mr Iain Meikleham and Mr Parker are accused of shooting the Aitkens of Manse Road, Aberfoyle, on 19 December last year.
