Adopt a sheep – then eat it
By FWi staff
ITALIAN consumers are being urged to adopt a sheep for 108 a year on the Internet – and then eat it, reports The Times.
Hard-pressed sheep farmers are offering customers everything the animal produces, including cheese, woolly socks and fertiliser, and in due course its meat.
The plan is the brainchild of Manuela Cozza, who runs an organic farm with 1300 sheep in the Abruzzo region near Rome.
The newspaper suggests that one flaw of the scheme is that customers, who receive photographs of their sheep, will become attached to the animal and not want to eat it.
