Animal activists blamed for firebombs

By FWi Staff

A FIREBOMB attack on a Devonshire meat storage depot late last night is being blamed on animal activists.

The alarm was raised at the Novacold premises, Exeter, at 11.30pm last night after a lorry burst into flames.

Two lorries were destroyed in the attack and a several more were damaged.

Police securing the premises found three incendiary devices as local fire crews worked to put out the fires.

The area was evacuated and the devices removed for forensic examination by a Royal Navy bomb disposal squad from Devonport.

No one has claimed so far to have carried out the attack, but police suspect it was the work of animal activists, said a spokesman for the Devon and Cornwall constabulary.

The main line of inquiry for the attack lies with forensic examinations, and the police are appealing for witnesses.

No one was injured in what was “a completely irresponsible act”, the spokesman added.
