‘Anti-GM campaign will hit UK’

THE campaign against genetically modified (GM) research on crops will mean Britain falling behind its international competitors, a leading businessman has claimed.

Sir Richard Sykes, chairman of Glaxo Wellcome, made the remark in his opening address yesterday to the British Association for the Advancement of Science.

The end result of the campaign against GM crops and food would be to the “disadvantage” of British agriculture, he said.

Sir Richards specific comments on GM foods come amid a general criticism of the lack of investment in British science.
