Anti-standstill campaign

Farmers visiting the Nation-al Sheep Association stand at the Royal Show were asked to sign a petition calling for an end to the 20-day standstill on movements.

A continuation of the 20-day standstill will cost the UK sheep industry millions of £s and could result in the collapse of UK auction markets, claimed NSA chief executive John Thorley.

"Should the government continue to implement the 20-day standstill it will bear full responsibility for crippling the UK sheep industry."

If the UK was free of foot-and-mouth then the government must find more practical solutions, said Mr Thorley. &#42
