Aphid attack warnings by email

By FWi staff

VEGETABLE growers can receive email warnings of aphid attacks throughout the growing season, in a new Horticultural Development Council service.

Every Friday, email warnings will be sent out by the council, which co-ordinates UK horticultural research funding.

Reports will based on aphid flight data collected by the Institute of Arable Crop Research Rothamsted through a national network of fifteen suction traps.

Significant changes will be flagged up using news-flash e-mails.

Initial indications are that potato aphid and peach-potato aphids are expected to fly slightly later than average, in late-May.

To receive bulletins, HDC members should e-mail their registration number only in a message entitled making it easy to tracey.stell@hdc.org.uk
