ARC gives approval
STROBILURIN fungicides have produced at least 10% more yield than triazole-based programmes in nearly all wheat varieties in two years of Arable Research Centre trials.
The edge of strobs over conventional treatments has mostly been between 10 and 20%, says ARC director, Mike Carver. "It looks pretty safe to say most varieties appear to be responding fairly uniformly."
But site and the economics of treatment must be considered, says Dr Carver. "The strob programme cost about £23/ha. That means you need about 0.3t just to cover the cost of the chemical. Some responses at Caythorpe were dangerously close to that." *
