Archers to join Countryside March?
By FWi staff
CHARACTERS from BBC radio serial The Archers are likely to be joining the Countryside March, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The BBC promised that issues surrounding the London demonstration on 18 March would be addressed by the Radio 4 rural soap opera.
It is reported that a storyline would be developed pitching hunt supporters against antis.
After the first Countryside March in 1998, the series was criticised for barely mentioning the event, which attracted 280,000 demonstrators.
The same newspaper reports that beacons of support for the 2001 Countryside March will be lit in at least 14 other countries.
Fires will be lit by supporters in Russia, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Kenya, Singapore, Holland, Spain, Norway and Hungary.
The Telegraph says the march, which hopes to attract up to 500,000 people, is being seen as a protest against threats to rural civil liberties everywhere.
