One of the tasks undertaken by RASE president, Col E C York, on the first day of the show was to unveil a mural (above) in the entrance of the Arthur Rank Centre. This is a tribute to the 25 years of service which the centre has given to the rural church and the community. Numerous organisations are based at the centre which, during Royal Show week, becomes the church pavilion, as stipulated by Arthur Rank. The organisations – the Youth Training Unit, the Living Churchyard and the Farmers World Network, among them – were represented by arrangements in the annual flower festival held in an upper room.
