Barely a day goes by without
a machinery sale taking
place somewhere in the
country at this time of year.
FW called in on one East
Anglian auction last week…
A field day… A big crowd gathered at Hill Farm, Papworth – and it would have been an even bigger one had some farmers not been making the most of the sunny weather to finish off the drilling.
Selling up, but smiling all the same… Roger Pinner is to retire, while son, Paul, now plans to concentrate on his landscape gardening business.
Auctioneers Michael Alexander (right) and Andrew McFarlane Holt at the centre of the action. The highest bid of the day was £50,000 for the combine. About as expected, said Mr McFarlane Holt, but back in the spring before sterling appreciated too much, such machines were worth about 10% more. The combine was one of nearly 300 lots that were catalogued on this Cambs farm.
Ripe for restoration… this Fordson Super Major went on to make £130. "Not in bits – but certainly not in working order, either" said one sale-goer.
In pensive mood…
Whats this, the farming ladder?
Autumn is a good time to sell cultivation kit. And included in the Hill Farm offering was a set of 10.1m spring tine harrows with interchangeable sections which made £1000. Also going under the hammer was a set of 10m Parmiter hydraulic folding harrows which went for £620.
