Turning suckler cows out for a short period each day, despite difficult ground conditions, is saving 50p a cow a day in feed costs at ADAS High Mowthorpe. Research consultant Duncan Pullar believes the grass – 12cm (5in) high already – must be eaten to avoid the risk of reduced production from open swards later in the season. Full story p49.
