Turnips being gathered up for Swaledale wether lambs at grass by William Holmes, who farms in partnership with his son Chris, at Langton Gate, Hilton, Appleby. Mule wether lambs are being fattened on turnips and sold at Kirkby Stephen Market. The trade has picked up a lot in the last month, says Chris, but industry commentators fear it might just be easing back a little now (see below).
