Dont let wheat blossom midge eat into your milling and seed wheat income this season, warns insecticide supplier Dow AgroSciences. Poor control last season and the wet, cold winter mean there are plenty of cocoons in the soil waiting to emerge in early June, says the firms James Knight. However, spraying can cause long-term damage to populations of non-target species, so careful field monitoring is vital. The Dow AgroSciences/ADAS Pestwatch service will start to issue warnings to agronomists from May 31.
