Are BPCcritics wrong in their judgment?
The British Potato Council has its fair share of critics. Most are growers who resent their £36.50/ha levy obligation to an organisation that they believe does not give value for money.
But few who attended recent workshops would level such criticism. The days are packed with irrigation, pest control and disease management messages.
Council critics would do well to visit such events. They may find that their levy is recouped partly by a wealth of take-home tips to increase output. Add BPCs market information and promotional work, and the Council is well on its way to repaying growers levy investment.
