FLOODING caused £14m-worth of damage to crops in the Republic of Ireland this week.
The torrential rain also spread across England.
A 67-year-old Irish farmer was found dead in a sodden field in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare. He was believed to have drowned in the floods that swept the Republic.Farmers planting crops could benefit from four-year weather forecasts. The possibility of these has moved a step closer with the discovery by British scientists of a vast temperature cycle in the North Atlantic. They believe this may be playing a crucial role in shaping the climate over western Europe severalyears ahead.
