B&W society in offing
A NEW black-and-white dairy cow breed society, to be called Holstein UK and Ireland, should come into being in January subject to membership approval of the existing two societies in December.
Members of the Holstein Friesian Society and British Holstein Society will vote on the proposals of their merger Unification Task Force before the new society comes into effect. But chairmen of both societies expect membership approval.
Speaking at last weeks European Dairy Farming Event (see page 46), Task Force chairman Lord Selborne said that a single organisation was essential for the long term interests of milk producers and cattle breeders, and it should be created as soon as possible.
Both society headquarters will be retained in the short-term, but the Task Force recommends relocation to NAC, Stoneleigh, Warks, when the full value of HFSs base at Rickmansworth can be realised. *
