B&Ws tempting

LONGEVITY and milking performance boosted buyers confidence at the first reduction sale from J V Masseys non-pedigree herd of black-and-whites at Henbury, Macclesfield.

This was the first sale of stock from the herd for 40 years and, although pedigree registrations ceased some years ago, the herds reputation encouraged confident bidding.

Prices reached £780 for a Delta Lava-sired calved heifer giving 26kg a day after a mid-November calving. Buyer was D Percival, Byley, Cheshire. A second calver by Genus Garcon was sold four weeks calved and made £760 to J Bletcher, Buckley, Cheshire.

Averages: 64 cows in-milk £553; 10 calved heifers £531; 26 in-calf heifers £498. (Frank R Marshall and Co) &#42
