Banana exporters look for new deal
LATIN American and Caribbean banana exporters are looking to agree a deal over access to the European market.
The move comes after the European Unions protectionist stance towards Caribbean banana imports soured relations with the US.
European Union proposals for resolving the dispute included varying the current tariff quota and seeking a World Trade Organisation waiver for the existing regime.
The plans would have created two quota regimes in an attempt to satisfy both the traditional and Latin American exporters.
