Barr stays on as MLC chairman

PETER BARR has been reappointed for three more years as chairman of the Meat and Livestock Commission on a salary of £70,960 for a three day week.

Mr Barr was first appointed chairman in April 2001. Before joining the MLC he chaired the Institute of Grocery Distribution‘s Food Project.

“I‘m glad that Peter has agreed to continue as chairman, having guided the MLC to many successes through difficult times,” said junior DEFRA minister Lord Whitty.

“His tenure has seen a significant upturn in the level of red meat consumption.

“Under his leadership, I‘m sure the MLC will continue to help industry adapt to current changes, such as CAP reform and the Sustainable Farming and Food Strategy.”

In addition to his role at the MLC, Mr Barr is also a member of the IGD‘s policy issues council, a member of the Food Chain Centre steering group and chairman of the Applied Research Forum for farming and food.
