Belgian ministers quit over food scare
TWO of Belgiums ministers have quit after failing to act quickly enough against contaminated chicken feed.
Marcel Colla, public health minister, and Karel Pinxten, farm minister, resigned after the feed was found to be laced with dioxin.
The discovery prompted a possible ban across the European Union on Belgian poultry products.
The ministers went as the government banned the sale of all products containing eggs.
The European Commission is expected to tell other European countries to destroy chicken, egg products and foodstuffs imported from Belgium since 15 January.
French veterinary services have halted egg and poultry production at 80 farms in the north and west of the country as a precautionary measure.
