Below average yields
SINCE moving into winter wheat on Monday, yields are still below average across harvest for Colin McGregor, who farms at Coldstream on the English border.
Chariot and Optic spring barley have both yielded below average, between 5.2-6.7t/ha (2.1-2.7t/acre), which is below the normal 6.2-7.5t/ha (2.5-3t/acre). “It was drilled three weeks late and then had a relatively dry summer.”
Claire has yielded 8.6t/ha (3.5t/acre). This is below average. He grows Claire and Consort for biscuit wheat.
“The yields are not too bad considering the conditions they were drilled into, but its still a disappointment when everything is below average.”
