Better barley, rape harvest to start

LINCOLNSHIRE farmer Stephen Wrisedale has combined a significant amount of barley and hopes to be moving on to oilseed rape on Sunday.

Thirty-nine hectares (97 acres) of Pearl, grown under C1 contract near Spillesby, has yielded 9t/ha (3.5t/acre).

“Its certainly not a peak, but it is better than the last two or three years.” The specific weight is 68kg/hl.

They have just started combining 47ha (117 acres) of Vanessa malting barley. “It probably wont do 3t/acre.” He says they are about average for the area.

They should start combining oilseed rape by Sunday, on the clay-based farm.
