Big savings after casual tax clarified
FARMERS and growers will save thousands of £ after clarification of the tax rules for casual workers, says the NFU.
Misinterpretation by the tax office meant that many producers were applying normal PAYE tax rules instead of the daily harvest casual arrangement.
This was challenged by the NFU. The Inland Revenue has since confirmed the unions interpretation of the rules, saving some farmers up to £300,000.
Harvest casuals can work for any number of days. All employers have to do is keep a record of their names and addresses and gross pay. *
