Bigger premium advances for Scots
THE Scottish Office will increase the level of advance payments under the beef premium scheme from 60% to 80%.
Lord Sewel, the agriculture minister, reckoned the concession, agreed by the Beef Management Committee in Brussels, would mean the earlier payment of £17.5 million in Scotland. It will start as soon as possible after 1 November.
- The suckler cow premium will now be £89.93, an extra £22.48 per animal.
- The beef special advance will be £67.45 for steers and £83.78 for bulls, an increase of £16.86 and £20.94 respectively.
