Biggest wheat crop ever?
Biggest wheat crop ever?
WHEAT stores across the UK are likely to be bulging next year as growers face a harvest of at least 18m tonnes, perhaps the biggest wheat crop ever.
Up to 30% of the 2002 crop will need to be exported, Trevor Harriman, commercial director for Dalgety Arable, told an AgriVision seminar audience last week.
"Plan your marketing strategy and stick to it," he advised. Volume was just one factor affecting prices. Currency, foreign prices, international markets and the influence of EU policy also had a role.
"Farmers should pay attention to the increasingly important range of risk management tools that are available, such as funds, pools, options and groups," he said. "These provide opportunities for farmers to maintain and add value in increasingly competitive markets." *
