Blunkett seeks delay on ban

THE GOVERNMENT is believed to be assessing a number of ways it can postpone enforcement of the hunting ban until after the general election.

Both The Times and the Daily Telegraph report on an interview from Sunday (Nov 21) on ITV‘s Jonathan Dimbleby programme with the home secretary David Blunkett.

Mr Blunkett told Mr Dimbleby that police forces will be expected to apply a degree of “common sense” and enforce the new law with “sensitivity”.

But he said those who were determined to break the law would be dealt with by the police.

The home secretary also ruled out the possibility of giving police forces extra funds in order to police the countryside saying forces ‘will have to use resources wisely‘.
