Brazil coffee exports up 50%

THE International Coffee Organisation (ICO) reports a 50% jump in Brazils coffee exports in November.

The worlds largest coffee producer exported about 1.9 million 60 kilogram bags, against 1.2m bags in November the previous year.

Colombia, the second largest producer, also increased its exports in November by 20%, to more than 1m bags.

The ICO reports a sharp drop in exports from central American coffee growers due to seasonal variations.

Honduras increased its exports during the first three months of the 1998/99 coffee season, which began in October.

The ICO said that among the big Asian producers, Indonesia showed a sizeable increase, while Vietnams exports dropped by almost a third.
