Bristol man on badger cull assault charge

A man arrested after an incident at a farm in the Gloucestershire badger cull zone has been charged with assault.

The 30-year-old from the Bristol area, who has not been named, has been charged with aggravated trespass and common assault.

Police officers working under Operation Themis – the badger cull policing operation – were called to a farm in Bromsberrow Heath, Ledbury, on the Gloucestershire-Herefordshire border, at around 10pm on Monday (22 September).

Following the incident, the 30-year-old man was arrested and later questioned at Cheltenham police station.

The man has been bailed to appear before magistrates in Cheltenham on 23 October.
The second year of the six-week pilot badger cull, part of government plans to eradicate bovine TB, began on 8 September in the county.
