British bull semen back in Australia

By Boyd Champness

THE decade-long ban on British bull semen entering Australia in the wake of the BSE crisis is over, with samples arriving in Australia just before Christmas.

About 1900 straws from six beef and dairy bulls arrived in Australia recently, from breeds such as Guernsey, British White, Holstein, British Friesian and Limousin.

The ban was lifted earlier this year in response to Australian breeders of both British and European dairy and beef breeds seeking access to the traditional or native types and bloodlines.
