Brown fights to keep pig cash
By FWi staff
AGRICULTURE minister Nick Brown has hinted that he is fighting Chancellor Gordon Brown to keep aid for the pig industry, reports The Times.
Mr Brown said at Commons Question Time that he was determined that money underspent from 6.6 million announced at last years Downing Street summit should go to pig farmers as intended.
Tory agriculture spokesman James Paice said only 135,000 of the money had been spent, and urged it should be carried over to next years budget.
Mr Brown said: “I want the money spent on the [sector] for which it was allocated.”
