Brown on verge of announcing aid package
By FWi staff
AGRICULTURE minister Nick Brown is on the verge of announcing an emergency rescue package for producers worst hit by the farming crisis.
Mr Brown said this weekend that financial aid to livestock farmers will be ready in weeks, rather than months.
He has already held meetings with the Treasury officials and farm leaders with a view to granting financial aid to farmers.
In the past few weeks, he has also visited European Union officials in Brussels and Strasbourg to discuss aid to small-scale producers.
Speaking on BBC televisions Countryfile programme on Sunday, Mr Brown said: “I am determined to do what I can to help and to be honest about the financial framework” within which help would be offered.
The package is expected to provide short-term aid for hill farmers and those who farm on marginal land.
