Brussels bans milk-boosting hormone
by FWi staff
THE European Unions 10-year-old moratorium on the milk-boosting drug bovine somatotrophin (BST) becomes a permanent ban from 1 January.
Both the European parliament and European agriculture ministers approved the move, which is being taken on animal health grounds, earlier in December.
Imports from Third Countries using BST will still be allowed, however, as there is currently no evidence to suggest a human health threat from the drug.
