BSTdecision

BRUSSELS has confirmed that the 10-year-old moratorium on the milk-boosting drug bovine somatotrophin, (BST), is being converted into a permanent ban from Jan 1, 2000.

Both the European parliament and farm ministers have approved the move, which is being taken on animal health grounds. Imports from Third Countries using BST will still be allowed, however, as there is currently no evidence to suggest a human health threat.
