Buyers keen to get Mouldyhills breeding
TESTIMONY to the breeding success of their Mouldyhills Holstein Friesian herd, Dumfries-shire farmers Jack and Daphne Irving enjoyed a glittering trade at its dispersal at Carlisle.
Most interest came for the striking heifer calf Mouldyhills Liana 12th, a Comestar Leader daughter and out of the Starbuck-sired Mouldyhills Liana 2nd PI Ex90. She was taken by an undisclosed bidder from Northern Ireland at 4500gns.
Liana 2nd, due with her sixth by Startmore Rudolph, made 3600gns to Keith Jamieson, Annan. Mouldyhills Liana 6th, a first calver by Pinehurst Elation and classified VG87 in both herd books, heads for the local Holmeden herd of John Hodgson and family at 4100gns.
Mouldyhills Squaw 7th, a second calver by Grand, made 4000gns. She was giving 50kg a day and joins Edward Williams Shawbrae herd at Lockerbie which also secured an Ex90 classified Skychief daughter from the Lamy family at 3600gns. A total of 21 head made over 2000gns.
