Call for drug-free pigs and poultry
PIG and poultry producers are under pressure to set to follow the example of the countrys biggest chicken supplier and stop using antibiotics as growth promoters.
The call from supermarkets comes after the Grampian Country Food Group said it expected to phase out use of the routine use of the drugs by Christmas.
Grampian said it was preparing for sale next month the first mass market chickens reared without the use of antibiotic growth promoters.
The news was the lead story on the front page of yesterdays Guardian.
