Campaign launched to protect rare birds
A MINORITY of gamekeepers is believed to be responsible for poisoning rare wild birds, according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
The RSPB and the police launched a campaign encouraging the public to note the birds at risk and to use telephone hotlines to inform on offenders.
Police stations are displaying pictures of the wild birds under threat by traps, guns or poison. Most of the shooting attacks are from irresponsible members of the public, says the RSPB.
It confirmed nearly 100 incidents of poisoning, shooting, trapping and nest destruction that killed 80 of the countrys most spectacular birds last year.
