Cattle database for Cumbria

THE computer-based British Cattle Movement Service will be based at Workington, Cumbria. It will replicate a database in the Netherlands which allows all the medical records and movements of cattle to be traded.

The decision to base the service at Workington reverses a Tory Government decision for it to be at ex-PM John Majors Huntingdon seat or in Guildford, Surrey. The Workington site met with opposition from Whitehall public servants who do not like working outside of easy commuting distances from central London.
