  • Chancellor cuts National Insurance

NATIONAL Insurance contributions will be set at a single rate from next year, the Chancellor said this afternoon.

From April 1999, employers contributions will be cut to 12.2% after the first £81 of wages. Employees will pay no contributions on the first £81 either.

The deal means people in work gain by £66 a year each.
