Charolais top pair in Burke beef
WINNERS of the Burke inter-breed beef and dairy pairs championships at the Royal were the Charolais and Holstein Friesians, with Limousin and Jersey pairs coming second in the line-up.
The Charolais pair, the bull Foxacre Maximus from PM and SM Donger, Towcester, Northants, and Mortimers Farms Mowbraypark Gigi, beat the Limousin twosome – the bull Foxcroft Hifli from NR and L Hill, Cheddar, Somerset, and Limousin champion, David Dicks cow Ronick Janita.
Black-and-white winning pair were Strutt and Parker Farms (Lavenham) cow-in-milk Cadillac Lindy Sasha and Joylan Farms mature cow in-milk Pimhill Delegate Joy. Judge Edward Taylor, HFS chairman, said the winning pair were tremendous cows.
Taking the runner-up spot for the Jerseys were Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth IIs cow-in-milk Windsor Imperials Blanche and David and Lena Lewis cow-in-milk Dalena Nemos Claire.
Sheep pairs championship at the show was awarded to the Rouge de lOuest ram and ewe shown by west country breeders Simon Wright and David Jane.
Suffolks took reserve with a ram lamb from Warwickshire breeders TC and CA Harding and a shearling ewe from Sandy Fraser.
In the pig lines, Large White breeders William and Linda Gregory, from Selby, Yorks, took the Flack trophy, with Poplarburn Field Marshal and Poplarburn Dainty Girl, who are brother and sister.
Pipped at the post in the Flack Trophy were the Berkshires from Charles Bull, showing his boar Highlands Namatjira 22nd and sow Highland Louise 21st.
