Cheesemakers threaten to leave Britain
SPECIALIST cheesemakers are threatening to move their businesses abroad unless the government strips away regulatory red tape.
The Timesclaims that up to 120 cheesemakers are ready to decamp to the Continent
This week, industry representatives will meet Michael Wills, the small business minister.
They want Mr Wills to exempt small cheesemakers from regulations they claim are more appropriate for large corporations.
The plight of the cheesemakers has resulted in a new alliance of small producers, including sheep farmers, who also face new controls.
The cheesemakers are soon to form an all-party Campaign for Independent Foods to lobby ministers.
