Claas Disco mowers set for silage season

CLAAS UK has introduced two Disco mowers for the forthcoming silage season – the 8500C triple-mounted machine and the trailed 3000AS model.

The 8.5m 8500C is available in three versions for use with tractors and Claas self-propelled forage harvesters and is claimed to be capable of 10ha/hour (25 acres) workrates.

For operation with conventional tractors, the triple mower can be used as a front and two rear side-mounted arrangement, or as a single unit when operated with a reverse drive tractor.

Requiring 200hp, the 8500C has independent suspension on each of the three mowing units and can be folded to a 3m (10ft) transport width.

For use with Claas self-propelled foragers, the triple mower can be specified as two models – the 8500C-F6 – to fit the Jaguar 695, or the 8500C-F8 for work with 840 to 880 Jaguar machines.

Both self-propelled outfits can be operated by an in-cab console to provide individual control over each 3m mower unit.

In addition to the 8500C, Claas has launched its first mower to be fitted with auto swather unit – the trailed 3m 3000AS.

Driven hydraulically, the auto swather unit uses a 2m (6.5ft) belt to place two large swathes side-by-side for high capacity harvesters, or to bulk-up lighter second or third cut swathes for foragers with medium appetites.

For adjusting the distance over which the crop is thrown, the belt can be varied in speed by altering oil flow from the swathers own hydraulic reservoir. Prices for the 8500C and 3000AS Disco mowers start at £28,700 and £16,300, respectively. &#42

Latest Disco mowers from Claas include the trailed 3m 3000AS with autoswather – the first of its type to be made by the company.
