Claim 75% off training costs

FARMERS in central and southern England can get up to 75% off the cost of computer training following a successful bid for government funds by agricultural computer specialist, Landmark.

The bid for funding through DEFRAs England Rural Development Plan was finalised in October, and the company has trained over 140 farmers since then.

A second round will be run in the New Year, and courses are available either on a one-to-one basis on-farm or in groups at a selected venue. Four free Business Link seminars will also be taking place, introducing farmers to the benefits of using IT within their businesses, with a chance to view a range of systems in the market place.

"The courses have proved such a success that we are hoping to get another grant to run more next year," said Landmark director Nigel Parsons.

"IT can cut farm costs through financial planning, record keeping and cropping plans. We can advise on the best systems to suit individual needs, as well as providing the training needed to get the most out of them," said Mr Parsons.
