Coroners ‘concealed’ BSE deaths
THE number of victims of the human form of BSE could be higher than official figures because coroners have refused full inquests on them, a campaign group claimed this week.
The group, Inquest, claims that a number of families have been refused inquests on victims of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (nvCJD), the human form of BSE, after coroners decided that the deaths were due to “natural causes”.
So far, 49 people in Britain are confirmed to have died from nvCJD.
