Countryside Alliance seeks broader role
THE Countryside Alliance is trying to recast itself as the lobbying voice for the rural way of life.
The group, which brought 250,000 out onto the streets, in March to defend hunting, is to give equal emphasis to building links with other countryside groups as well as winning support and sympathy among urban voters.
The alliance has adopted a new manifesto. This states that its aims will be to “preserve the freedoms of country people and their way of life” as well as to “co-operate closely with other organisations to promote and protect the rural way of life”.
The relaunch of the organisation comes after several months of internal strife which saw the departure of the alliances recently appointed chief executive Edward Duke.
