Police appeal for help after pig theft and butchery

Police are appealing for information over the theft of a litter of pigs and the slaughter of a sow on a farm in Nottinghamshire.

The offenders broke into the farm in Bilsthorpe after removing some fencing and stole one sow and 50 piglets. For reasons currently unclear, the thieves also butchered another sow at the scene.

The incident was discovered by the farm manager at 7am today (Friday 13), who alerted the police.

Nottinghamshire Police are asking anyone who either witnessed the crime or know anything about the theft to contact them. They believe the theft took place between 3am and 7am.

It is likely that more than one person was involved as it would have been difficult to move the sows to the road side.

Anyone with information can call the police on 101 referencing incident 000156-13062014 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
