Cut in chemical prices unlikely

GROWERS expecting a repeat of last years cuts in chemical prices are likely to be disappointed, despite the reduced crop area and consequent competition in the supply trade, says Dalgety Arable.

Price reductions over the past four years have made pesticide prices in the UK as competitive as anywhere in Europe, says arable marketing manager, Peter Corbett. With sterling having fallen 8-10% against the $ and the k, prices will stabilise or even trend upwards, he predicts. "UK farm pricing is now on a par with the European market."

Price increases in France and Germany of 2-4% are forecast and most manufacturers have a pan-European pricing policy now, he says. &#42
