Cyanide gang kills badgers in sett

AT LEAST 15 badgers were discovered dead yesterday (Wednesday) on land belonging to Lord Rayleigh after a gang sealed up a sett and filled it with cyanide gas.

The gassing took place on Firstead Hall Farm, between Witham and Braintree in Essex.

Local farmers were puzzled by the action. There was no bovine TB in the area.

The animals are safeguarded by the Protection of Badgers Act 1992, which makes it illegal to disturb them in any way.
