Dalgety clients get new dairy costings service

A DAIRY management service which offers improved costings and better predictions of herd performance will be offered free of charge to Dalgety and Dalgety Oldacres clients from today (May 1).

The scheme, resulting from a new partnership between Dalgety Agriculture and National Milk Records, contains several new features compared with Dalgetys former herd costings service, says the companys Janice Harland.

It defines feed inputs more accurately, taking account of the type of compound, blend, concentrate or straights, as well as individual succulents and forages, especially important for those with total mixed ration systems.

Feeding systems are defined more accurately, from mechanical out-of-parlour feeding, through TMR to simple silage and cake systems. That allows farmers to benchmark against other producers.

A new dairy manager section uses new lactation data to reflect changes in genetic merit. Farmers who are also NMR customers can use "live" information gleaned from their latest recording results for individual cows, rather than using standard lactation curves, points out NMRs Mike Blan-shard. That allows accurate rolling production forecasts to be compared with quota.
